Josh is the creator and chief architect of Pivot Adventure Co. Josh started this workshop to make a dent in the industry that has got out of hand. He graduated from Utah Valley University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Management. With over 15 years of experience working with youth, Josh defines his career by the impact he’s had in teaching others. His other big project to date is his blog with over 1,500 consecutive posts about breaking false limits and leveling up.
Chief Financial Officer
Katie is the co-creator of Pivot Adventure Co. Katie works to open doors for people who will turn around and open doors for others. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Commercial Recreation Management. Katie has guided for the National Park Service and various wilderness therapy programs. She has volunteered at Slate Canyon Detention Center, BYU Adaptive Aquatics and Courage Reins Equestrian Ranch. She believes using new environments to inspire change and teach life skills to youth.
Social Worker, SSW
Sara is an adventurer, wilderness explorer and all-around sportswoman. She graduated from Southern Virginia University with a degree in Family and Child Development and Psychology and is a licensed Social Service Worker. She is also certified in mental health first aid. Sara started her professional career in Virginia working with children and their families at an equine therapy center. From there, she conducted trail rides and arena horse therapy with four to 84-year-olds. After moving to Utah, Sara started working closely with expectant parents and their families, which included crisis intervention, life planning, and resilience training. With 12 years of experience working with teens and their families, Sara is excited two teach her passions of adventuring along with tactics to improve mental and emotional health to strengthen youth and their families.
Angela Shields, TRTS, CTRS
Angela is an adventure seeker and loves sharing these experiences with others. She has worked as a professional guide and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership with an emphasis in Recreation Therapy. She has worked in various wilderness therapy programs and residential treatment centers. She loves working with youth and has a passion for helping them realize their inherent worth. Angela believes that we all have a core need to be loved and have fun, and she has dedicated her life to helping others fulfill these needs.
Heidi Hill, TRS, CTRS, MSW
Heidi is a recent social work grad and an experienced recreational therapist. She has worked with a variety of clients: teens, inmates, veterans with PTSD, inpatient psych, detox, and children. She has also worked in a variety of settings ranging from wilderness to hospitals to residential treatment centers and in between. Her favorite therapeutic modalities include adventure therapy and creative/expressive arts. Heidi believes in meeting the client and their families where they are and building on strengths.
Shar Evans, TRS, CTRS
Sharlene Evans received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and is a Licensed Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in the state of Utah as well as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Sharlene has worked as a recreational therapist with various populations. She worked for 2 years at Orchard Cove Orthopedic Rehabilitation. Sharlene has been able to gain experience as an intern at LDS hospital at their inpatient psych unit and South Davis community hospital. She has enjoyed being able to write and participate in programming for school-aged children through her work with Recreation Solutions. Sharlene has been able to stay involved in the field of recreational therapy through her work with the Utah Recreational Therapy Association. She has served in various positions which include silent auction coordinator, and experiential chair, in which she coordinates CEU opportunities for TRSs and TRTs throughout the year. Sharlene loves the outdoors and knows firsthand it’s benefits. She is an avid trail runner, hiker, mountain climber, child juggler and chaos surfer.
