Would you save someone who is drowning?

More than half the teens in the US meet the criteria for a mental health disorder. Half! The number one cause of death for teens is now suicide. School districts in the area average more than one referral every other day to school counselors for suicidal behaviors. Do the math, there are 180 school days per year.

On top of all this, the mental health system is broken for teens. The typical talk therapy session is $100-$200 per 50 minutes. That is simply not enough time commitment to make a meaningful change. And it isn't an environment where teens feel like they can open up and share what is going on. The other alternatives include wilderness therapy and residential treatment which are over $50,000 to participate in. The medium family income in Utah is $71,000. That is 70% of the typical family income for just one of these options. It would be like taking a second mortgage. (If you have a minute check out 1A's discussion on the state of the industry.)

Youth today are losing the battle of stress and anxiety; they can’t do it on their own. Families are stuck, they are scared and are looking for answers. That is why we created Pivot Adventure. Pivot Adventure is an adventure-based mentorship course for teens. We specialize in helping teens overcome life's challenges through resiliency training. It's about discovering your passion, seeing the world as it really is and dancing with fear. Students participate in adventure activities once per week with a mixture of mental health professionals and outdoor specialists. Topics discussed are focused on improving their internal narrative (the story they tell themselves), identifying external conditions that get in the way and finally working through the conflicts of interest.

One bad chapter doesn't mean the story is over. Life is long (enough) to change the course for the next generation of youth. Every passing moment is a chance to turn it all around. That is why we are on a mission to provide growth opportunities for all teens regardless of what zip code they were born into. That is why we are flipping the industry on its head. (Read about the four things plaguing the teen mental health industry here.)

Of course, none of us would hesitate to jump in the pool to save someone who is drowning. That's is what we are looking for donors like you to jump in with us to save someone in need. We are counting on you. Is that something we can talk more about? Reach out to the email below or give us a call.

    Problem #1

Therapy is not voluntary and the use of deficit-based models

Teens are often forced to meet with therapists. Teens are not enrolled in the journey when asked for compliance. To make things worst, therapists use what is called a deficit-based model where they are forced to make a diagnosis for their patients.

    Problem #2

    Therapy is expensive

Most insurances do not cover mental health. The typical therapy session runs $100-$200 per 50-minute session. After that the options available skyrocket. The typical wilderness therapy or residential treatment program costs over $50,000, over $500 per day for 3 months of work.

    Problem #3

    No time commitment

50-minutes per week is simply not enough time to make a deep, everlasting change. You need practice. To improve life one must improve the quality of experiences.

    PAC Solution #1

Pivot Adventure is voluntary and uses a strength-based approach

Everyone applies to get in. We believe the youth can make the world a better place. We don't care about your resume or the choice that has lead families here. You have more power than you can imagine. You just need to act accordingly.

    PAC Solution #2

    Scholarship based

    All our applicants are scholarshiped.

    PAC Solution #3

    Commitment

Opposing forces within ourselves and in our environments stand in the way of making deep and meaningful change. Pivot Adventure accelerates this personal transformation by helping students flip the lights on. Once you see, you can’t unsee.
